(en) Sweden, Stockholm Anarchist Bookfair 2011!

Sun, 01/09/2011 - 10:44am
There will be another Anarchist Bookfair in Stockholm in 2011! Once more, we will be at Midsommargården, Telefonplan, not far from the city center. The date is June 18! Everyone is welcome to book tables and workshops! Contact us: info[at]anarchistbookfairsweden.se . The bookfair’s aim is to advance analysis, to exchange experience, and to strengthen cooperation. Furthermore, we want to correct simplified images of anarchism and anarchists. We want the bookfair to be open and inviting: a place where everyone feels welcome, curious pensioners as much as long-time activists. We are specifically reaching out to individuals, groups, and organizations in the Baltic region to establish contacts, share ideas, and build networks for the future. There will be stalls by Swedish and international publishers, panel discussions, workshops, exhibitions, a crèche, and a ...

(en) Pakistan, karachi, Media: Anarchists at frontline of Anti-Globalisation Movement

Sat, 01/08/2011 - 6:42am
The T2F organised here on Thursday a discussion on anarchism entitled ‘No State, No Master’. Fahad Desmukh, a freelance journalist based in Karachi, led the discussion. Speaking on the occasion, Fahad said that the term anarchy is usually used in a pejorative sense, conjuring up images of bomb-throwing terrorists out to destroy everything. Anarchy is used to describe a scenario of total societal chaos but another aspect of this picture also exists, which is not discussed, he said. ---- Fahad said anarchism actually refers to a vibrant political tradition and philosophy, which saw the removal of social hierarchy and authority as being essential to the quest for social justice and freedom. ---- He discussed about the unjust authority of state, church, working class and patriotism. “The most well-known aspect of the anarchists’ agenda is the demand to abolish the state. ...

(en) Alt. Media - Cuba: interview with the Movimiento Libertario Cubano

Fri, 01/07/2011 - 11:09am
During mid-June 2008 the Iberian counter-information collective A Las Barricadas posed several questions to the Movimiento Libertario Cubano… The complete text of this interview follows. We’re interviewing the MLC, an organization made up of anarchists in exile in different parts of the world. In these days of apparent change, of transition, as the European and North-American media would have it, it’s of interest to know first hand about what’s happening inside the island. The demise of Fidel Castro has opened up all sorts of speculation about the future of the communist regime due to the first measures the new chief, Raul Castro, has taken. Here’s the interview: ---- ALB – Hello compas. Let’s begin the interview with some notes on history for our readers. Could you briefly explain the history of the anarchist movement in Cuba? ---- MLC – Hello! Whoever wants to learn the ...

(en) Switzerland - No Solidarity with “anarchist” letter bombers by Libertäre Aktion Winterthur (de)

Fri, 01/07/2011 - 1:01am
The question of violence has always been a hot topic in anarchist discourse. How can the oldest and rawest expression of power be combined with the teachings of an anti-authoritarian ideology? Can a revolutionary anarchist strategy contain violence? -- You can't blow up a social relationship! ---- [Note: This communiqué is consciously not written in response to the most recent attacks in Rome on 23rd December [2010]. We question any anarchist link to these incidents, because – just like with the series of attacks in 2003 - the ominous “Federazione Anarchica Informale“ (FAI) has claimed responsibility. It is an unlikely coincidence that this group shares the same acronym as the Federazione Anarchica Italiana who distanced themselves clearly from the events in 2003 and suggested the “FAI” could well be a fake organisation. There are several examples ...
