Par plusieurs normes, les Chromebook commercialisés aujourd’hui sont l'élaboration de la promesse des netbooks, ces petits ordinateurs commercialisés mis en vente une bouchée de pain 2007… dont le principal défaut était de ne servir à rien, si ce n’est à caler les portes.
